16 Oct In Control of What?
Vulnerability is the new cool. Yet, it is not something that comes easy, at least not at first. Like everything else that’s difficult, it requires practice. Control tends to be our go-to mechanism to avoid feeling vulnerable. But, what are we really in control of? Control is nothing but an illusion that allows us to feel safe. It makes the uncertainty of life seem a little more predictable. We cannot control how things unfold, no matter how much effort we put into planning our future.
Living with the illusion of being in control allows us to feel like we are pulling all the strings. Practicing self-reflection allows us to realize that often times the only one in charge is our consciousness. Our actions and decision-making processes are often influenced by our fears. Our unconscious mind is extremely powerful, and we are often unaware of the influence it has on our thoughts, intentions and behaviors.
Living life within our zone of comfort is tempting. It is easy, almost automatic. However, until we dare to peel away deeper layers of ourselves, we are choosing to live our lives blindfolded, blissfully unaware. Losing awareness means we have lost our ability to choose how to manage and transcend challenging experiences. We start to go through the motions as a floating body that drifts away in space without purpose or direction.
All of us have the necessary skills to manage any challenge that is thrown our way. Your inner power and intrinsic survival mode can allow you to overcome anything. However, fears hinder your ability to appreciate your inner strength. Entering a journey of self-discovery can help you find out what your sense of control is inspired by. Whatever hides behind your fears needs to be revealed and understood. This journey can reveal long-buried wounding that deals with complex emotions. As difficult as it is to face your insecurities and weaknesses, the end goal is always rewarding.
Having fears is an essential part of being human. Fear serves an important purpose and its existence cannot be denied. Your fear can be your teacher. It can raise awareness by guiding you to what needs to be explored and understood. Behind your fears are awareness and choice. You just need to get comfortable with the idea of self-exploration. When you find your truths in the eye of fear, you realize that your consciousness can be expanded, and your resilience can be increased. Acknowledging those hidden shadows within yourselves is a victory. It allows you to continue moving forward in your journey with an open heart, head held high, and a solid foundation beneath your feet.
